Article 842 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

For the application of article 416 in the territory of French Polynesia and in New Caledonia, where it appears materially impossible for a lawyer to travel, the accused may choose as counsel a person who has not been the subject of any conviction, incapacity or disqualification mentioned in bulletin no. 2 of the criminal record. A person who is being prosecuted for the same acts or for related acts may not be chosen as counsel.

In the territory of the Wallis and Futuna Islands, the accused may choose as counsel a person approved under the conditions provided for in the penultimate paragraph of Article 814.

Pour l’application de l’article 416 dans le territoire de la Polynésie française et en Nouvelle-Calédonie, lorsque le déplacement d’un avocat paraît matériellement impossible, le prévenu peut prendre pour conseil une personne qui n’a fait l’objet d’aucune condamnation, incapacité ou déchéance mentionnée au bulletin n° 2 du casier judiciaire. Ne peut être choisie comme conseil une personne qui fait l’objet de poursuites pour les mêmes faits ou pour des faits connexes.

Dans le territoire des îles Wallis-et-Futuna, le prévenu peut prendre pour conseil une personne agréée dans les conditions prévues à l’avant-dernier alinéa de l’article 814.
