Article 945-1 of the French Code of civil procedure

The magistrate in charge of hearing the case may, if the parties do not object, hold the hearing alone to hear the pleadings. He reports to the court in its deliberations.

Le magistrat chargé d’instruire l’affaire peut, si les parties ne s’y opposent pas, tenir seul l’audience pour entendre les plaidoiries. Il en rend compte à la cour dans son délibéré.
