Article 963 of the French Civil Code

The property and rights included in the revoked donation revert to the donor’s patrimony, free of all charges and mortgages on the part of the donee, without being able to remain assigned, even subsidiarily, to the legal mortgage of the spouses; this is so even if the donation was made in favour of the donee’s marriage and inserted in the marriage contract.

Les biens et droits compris dans la donation révoquée rentrent dans le patrimoine du donateur, libres de toutes charges et hypothèques du chef du donataire, sans qu’ils puissent demeurer affectés, même subsidiairement, à l’hypothèque légale des époux ; il en est ainsi même si la donation a été faite en faveur du mariage du donataire et insérée dans le contrat de mariage.
