Article 994 of the French Civil Code

A will made during a sea voyage, in the form prescribed by articles 988 et seq. shall be valid only so long as the testator dies on board or within six months after he has disembarked in a place where he has been able to make it again in the ordinary forms.

However, if the testator undertakes a new sea voyage before the expiry of this period, the will will be valid for the duration of this voyage and for a further period of six months after the testator is again disembarked.

Le testament fait au cours d’un voyage maritime, en la forme prescrite par les articles 988 et suivants, ne sera valable qu’autant que le testateur mourra à bord ou dans les six mois après qu’il sera débarqué dans un lieu où il aura pu le refaire dans les formes ordinaires.

Toutefois, si le testateur entreprend un nouveau voyage maritime avant l’expiration de ce délai, le testament sera valable pendant la durée de ce voyage et pendant un nouveau délai de six mois après que le testateur sera de nouveau débarqué.
