In the interests of public health, the Medical Risks Observatory analyses the data defined in the first paragraph of article L. 1142-29 for the purposes of understanding medical risks, as part of its annual report. It thus highlights the main characteristics of the claims experience and the resulting cost of compensation, including changes over time. It highlights the relationships between the type of specialty concerned, the nature of the claim, the amount of compensation due per claim and the average settlement period. It identifies the cost for all those involved and details the distribution of compensation costs between the various bodies mentioned in article L. 1142-29.
Its report is sent to the ministers responsible for the economy, the budget, health and social security.
At the joint request of the ministers to whom the annual report is addressed, the Observatory may be commissioned to carry out studies on specific subjects related to its mission. A summary of each study is appended to the Observatory’s annual report for the year in which the study was submitted.
