Article D31-2 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

Where the investigating judge relinquishes jurisdiction pursuant to the last paragraph of Article 118, he shall immediately inform the president of the judicial court in which the investigating division is located, who shall designate the judge or judges of the division who will be responsible for continuing the investigation. Such relinquishment of jurisdiction shall not take effect until such time as these judges have been appointed. The Public Prosecutors of the two judicial courts are also informed of this relinquishment of jurisdiction.

Lorsque le juge d’instruction se dessaisit en application du dernier alinéa de l’article 118, il en informe immédiatement le président du tribunal judiciaire dans lequel se trouve le pôle de l’instruction, qui désigne le ou les juges du pôle qui seront chargés de poursuivre l’information. Ce dessaisissement ne prend effet qu’à compter de la désignation de ces juges. Les procureurs de la République des deux tribunaux judiciaires sont également informés de ce dessaisissement.
