Article D32-31 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

Where, in accordance with the provisions of the seventh and ninth paragraphs of article 145, the liberty and custody judge orders the provisional incarceration of the person under investigation with a view to a deferred hearing, either of his own motion or following a request for time from the person concerned or his lawyer, this judge may, in order to carry out the checks on the person’s situation provided for by article 81, refer the matter directly to :

1° The prison integration and probation service;

2° The relevant judicial youth protection service;

3° Any association authorised under the provisions of the sixth paragraph of article 81.

Article D32-31

Lorsque, conformément aux dispositions des septième et neuvième alinéas de l’article 145, le juge des libertés et de la détention ordonne l’incarcération provisoire de la personne mise en examen en vue d’un débat différé, soit d’office, soit à la suite d’une demande de délai de l’intéressé ou de son avocat, ce magistrat peut, afin qu’il soit procédé aux vérifications sur la situation de la personne prévues par l’article 81, directement saisir :

1° Le service pénitentiaire d’insertion et de probation ;

2° Le service compétent de la protection judiciaire de la jeunesse ;

3° Toute association habilitée en application des dispositions du sixième alinéa de l’article 81.
