Article D331-43 of the French Cinema and Moving Image Code

For the “Dramatic content” group, a maximum of 18 points are allocated as follows:
1° The “Locations” sub-group is awarded a maximum of 7 points, distributed as follows:
a) Alternatively:

when a relative majority of the scenes take place in France: 4 points;
-or when a relative majority of the scenes take place in France and a French-speaking country: 3 points;
-or when a relative majority of the scenes take place in France and a European country: 3 points;
-or when at least five scenes take place in France: 2 points;

b) When at least two settings that are emblematic of France, i.e. two specific and recognisable places that are representative of France, form the main setting for at least one scene each: 3 points;
2° The “Characters” sub-group is awarded a maximum of 4 points, distributed as follows:
a) When at least one main character is French, from a French-speaking country or a European country, or of undetermined nationality: 1 point;
b) Alternatively:

when at least three secondary characters are French, from a French-speaking country or a European country or of unspecified nationality: 3 points;
-or when at least two secondary characters are French, from a French-speaking country or a European country or of unspecified nationality: 2 points;
-or when one secondary character is French, from a French-speaking country or a European country or of unspecified nationality: 1 point;

3° The “Subject and History” sub-group is awarded a total of 5 points, distributed as follows:
a) Where the subject and history highlight France’s artistic heritage or a period of French history: 2 points;
b) Where the subject and history deal with political, social or cultural issues specific to French society or to European societies: 2 points;
c) Where the subject and story are inspired by or adapted from a pre-existing work, in particular a cinematographic or audiovisual work with the exception of sequels, a literary or comic book work, an opera, a play or a video game: 1 point;
4° The “Language” sub-group is awarded 2 points obtained when a final version of the work is dubbed or subtitled in French.

Pour le groupe ” Contenu dramatique “, les points, au nombre de 18 au plus, sont affectés comme suit :
1° Il est affecté au sous-groupe ” Lieux ” un nombre de 7 points au plus répartis de la manière suivante :
a) Alternativement :

-lorsqu’une majorité relative des scènes se déroulent en France : 4 points ;
-ou lorsqu’une majorité relative des scènes se déroulent en France et dans un pays francophone : 3 points ;
-ou lorsqu’une majorité relative des scènes se déroulent en France et dans un pays européen : 3 points ;
-ou lorsqu’au moins cinq scènes se déroulent en France : 2 points ;

b) Lorsqu’au moins deux décors emblématiques de la France, c’est-à-dire deux lieux déterminés et reconnaissables représentatifs de la France, constituent le décor principal d’au moins une scène chacun : 3 points ;
2° Il est affecté au sous-groupe ” Personnages ” un nombre de 4 points au plus répartis de la manière suivante :
a) Lorsqu’au moins un personnage principal est français, issu d’un pays francophone ou d’un pays européen ou de nationalité indéterminée : 1 point ;
b) Alternativement :

-lorsqu’au moins trois personnages secondaires sont français, issus d’un pays francophone ou d’un pays européen ou de nationalité indéterminée : 3 points ;
-ou lorsqu’au moins deux personnages secondaires sont français, issus d’un pays francophone ou d’un pays européen ou de nationalité indéterminée : 2 points ;
-ou lorsqu’un personnage secondaire est français, issu d’un pays francophone ou d’un pays européen ou de nationalité indéterminée : 1 point ;

3° Il est affecté au sous-groupe ” Sujet et histoire ” un nombre total de 5 points répartis de la manière suivante :
a) Lorsque le sujet et l’histoire mettent en valeur le patrimoine artistique français ou une période de l’histoire de France : 2 points ;
b) Lorsque le sujet et l’histoire traitent de problématiques politiques, sociales ou culturelles spécifiques à la société française ou aux sociétés européennes : 2 points ;
c) Lorsque le sujet et l’histoire sont inspirés ou adaptés d’une œuvre préexistante, notamment une œuvre cinématographique ou audiovisuelle à l’exception des suites, une œuvre littéraire ou de bande dessinée, un opéra, une pièce de théâtre ou un jeu vidéo : 1 point ;
4° Il est affecté au sous-groupe ” Langue ” 2 points obtenus lorsqu’une version finale de l’œuvre est doublée ou sous-titrée en français.
