Article D331-48 of the French Cinema and Moving Image Code

For the “Dramatic content” group, a maximum of 20 points are awarded as follows:
1° A maximum of 3 points will be awarded to the “Setting” sub-group, allocated in turn as follows:
a) At least one of the action’s main settings is in France, a French-speaking country or a place with a European aesthetic: 3 points;
b) Or at least 50% of the action takes place in an undeterminable location: 2 points;
2° The “Characters” sub-group will be awarded 3 points if at least one of the main characters is French, from a French-speaking country, from a European country or of undetermined nationality;
3° The “Subject and story” sub-group will be awarded a total of 10 points, distributed as follows:
a) The subject is suitable for a young or teenage audience: 3 points;
b) The subject and story are inspired by or adapted from a pre-existing work, in particular: a cinematographic or audiovisual work, with the exception of sequels, a literary work or comic strip, an opera, a play, a video game or traditional oral tales: 4 points;
c) The subject and story refer to an event or period in history, or deal with political, social or cultural issues specific to French society or European societies: 3 points;
4° The “Language” sub-group is awarded 4 points obtained when a final version of the work is dubbed or subtitled in French.

Pour le groupe ” Contenu dramatique “, les points, au nombre de 20 au plus, sont affectés comme suit :
1° Il est affecté au sous-groupe ” Lieux ” un nombre de 3 points au plus alternativement répartis de la manière suivante :
a) Au moins un des lieux principaux de l’action est situé en France, dans un pays francophone ou dans un lieu d’esthétique européenne : 3 points ;
b) Ou au moins 50 % de l’action se déroule dans un lieu indéterminable : 2 points ;
2° Il est affecté au sous-groupe ” Personnages ” 3 points obtenus lorsque au moins un personnage principal est français, issu d’un pays francophone ou d’un pays européen ou de nationalité indéterminable ;
3° Il est affecté au sous-groupe ” Sujet et histoire ” un nombre total de 10 points répartis de la manière suivante :
a) Le sujet est adapté à un public jeune ou adolescent : 3 points ;
b) Le sujet et l’histoire sont inspirés ou adaptés d’une œuvre préexistante, notamment : une œuvre cinématographique ou audiovisuelle à l’exception des suites, une œuvre littéraire ou de bande dessinée, un opéra, une pièce de théâtre, un jeu vidéo ou des contes traditionnels relevant de la tradition orale : 4 points ;
c) Le sujet et l’histoire se réfèrent à un événement ou une période de l’histoire, ou traitent de problématiques politiques, sociales ou culturelles spécifiques à la société française ou aux sociétés européennes : 3 points ;
4° Il est affecté au sous-groupe ” Langue ” 4 points obtenus lorsqu’une version finale de l’œuvre est doublée ou sous-titrée en français.
