Every person has the right, in the light of his state of health and the urgency of the interventions that this requires, to receive, throughout the territory, the most appropriate treatment and care and to benefit from therapies whose effectiveness is recognised and which guarantee the best possible health safety and the best possible alleviation of suffering in the light of proven medical knowledge. Prevention, investigation, treatment and care must not, in the light of current medical knowledge, involve risks that are disproportionate to the expected benefit. These provisions apply without prejudice to the safety obligation of any supplier of health products or to the application of Title II of this Book.
Every person has the right to a dignified end of life accompanied by the best possible alleviation of suffering. Healthcare professionals shall do everything in their power to ensure that this right is respected.
