Article L1111-2 of the French Public procurement code

The purpose of a works contract is:
1° Either the execution, or the design and execution, of works listed in a notice annexed to this Code;
2° Either the execution, or the design and execution, by whatever means, of a work that meets the requirements laid down by the purchaser, who has a decisive influence on its nature or design.
A work is the result of a set of building or civil engineering works intended to fulfil an economic or technical function in its own right.

Article L1111-2

Un marché de travaux a pour objet :
1° Soit l’exécution, soit la conception et l’exécution de travaux dont la liste figure dans un avis annexé au présent code ;
2° Soit la réalisation, soit la conception et la réalisation, par quelque moyen que ce soit, d’un ouvrage répondant aux exigences fixées par l’acheteur qui exerce une influence déterminante sur sa nature ou sa conception.
Un ouvrage est le résultat d’un ensemble de travaux de bâtiment ou de génie civil destiné à remplir par lui-même une fonction économique ou technique.
