The French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons ensures, in liaison with the competent administrative authorities, compliance with the fundamental guarantees offered by national law, the implementation of international conventions, agreements or arrangements concerning the protection of refugees on the territory of the Republic, and in particular the protection provided by the Geneva Convention of 28 July 1951 and the New York Protocol of 31 January 1967 relating to the status of refugees.It cooperates with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and facilitates his supervisory role under the conditions laid down in international agreements.
It is also responsible for the protection of refugees in the territory of the French Republic.
