Article L1221-5-1 of the French Labour Code

The employer shall provide the employee with one or more written documents containing the main information relating to the employment relationship.

An employee who has not received the information referred to in the first paragraph may only apply to the competent court to obtain this information after giving formal notice to his employer to provide him with the required documents or, where applicable, to supplement the documents provided.

A decree of the Conseil d’Etat shall set the terms and conditions for the application of this article, in particular the list of information that must be included in the documents mentioned in the first paragraph.

L’employeur remet au salarié un ou plusieurs documents écrits contenant les informations principales relatives à la relation de travail.


Un salarié qui n’a pas reçu les informations mentionnées au premier alinéa ne peut saisir le juge compétent afin de les obtenir qu’après avoir mis en demeure son employeur de lui communiquer les documents requis ou, le cas échéant, de compléter les documents remis.


Un décret en Conseil d’Etat fixe les modalités d’application du présent article, notamment la liste des informations devant figurer dans les documents mentionnés au premier alinéa.
