Article L1232-3 of the French Public Health Code

Samples may only be taken for scientific purposes within the framework of protocols submitted to the Agence de la biomédecine prior to their implementation. The Minister responsible for research may suspend or prohibit the implementation of such protocols if the need for the sample or the relevance of the research is not established.

Les prélèvements à des fins scientifiques ne peuvent être pratiqués que dans le cadre de protocoles transmis, préalablement à leur mise en oeuvre, à l’Agence de la biomédecine. Le ministre chargé de la recherche peut suspendre ou interdire la mise en oeuvre de tels protocoles, lorsque la nécessité du prélèvement ou la pertinence de la recherche n’est pas établie.
