Article L1424-56 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

The director of the public interdepartmental fire and rescue establishment is appointed by the chairman of the board of directors. The duties of director may be entrusted, where appropriate, to the departmental director of fire and rescue services of the department in which the headquarters of the interdepartmental public establishment is located.

Le directeur de l’établissement public interdépartemental d’incendie et de secours est nommé par le président du conseil d’administration. Les fonctions de directeur peuvent être confiées, le cas échéant, au directeur départemental des services d’incendie et de secours du département du siège de l’établissement public interdépartemental.
