Article L1424-6 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

A joint order by the prefect and the chairman of the fire and rescue service’s board of directors sets out, after consulting the board of directors, the organisation of the departmental service.

In the event of operating difficulties, the departmental corps is dissolved by order of the Minister of the Interior, issued on a proposal from the prefect, after consulting the fire and rescue service’s board of directors. This order specifies the conditions under which the service is to be reorganised and the arrangements required to provide emergency services until this reorganisation.

In the event of the dissolution of a departmental fire brigade in an overseas department, the opinion of the minister responsible for overseas departments is also required.

Un arrêté conjoint du préfet et du président du conseil d’administration du service d’incendie et de secours fixe, après avis du conseil d’administration, l’organisation du service départemental.

En cas de difficultés de fonctionnement, le corps départemental est dissous par arrêté du ministre de l’intérieur, pris sur proposition du préfet, après avis du conseil d’administration du service d’incendie et de secours. Cet arrêté précise les conditions de réorganisation du service et les dispositions nécessaires pour assurer les secours jusqu’à cette réorganisation.

En cas de dissolution d’un corps départemental d’un département d’outre-mer, l’avis du ministre chargé des départements d’outre-mer est également requis.
