The head of the fire and rescue service is appointed by order of the president of the territorial council with the assent of the representative of the State.
Under the authority of the representative of the State, he/she is responsible for:
1° The operational management of the fire brigade;
2° The management of prevention actions falling within the remit of the fire and rescue service.
To carry out these missions, he/she may receive a delegation of signature from the representative of the State.
Under the authority of the State representative or the president of the territorial council, as part of their respective police powers, he is also responsible for the operational implementation of all fire-fighting and rescue resources.
The head of the fire and rescue service may be assisted by a deputy who replaces him, in the event of absence or impediment, in all of his duties. This deputy is appointed under the same conditions as the head of the department and may also receive the delegations of signature mentioned in this article.
