The fire and rescue services are placed for employment under the authority of the mayor or the high commissioner, acting within the framework of their respective police powers.
To carry out the prevention missions for which they are responsible, particularly with regard to the risks of fire and panic in establishments open to the public, within the framework of the regulations applicable in French Polynesia, the mayor or the high commissioner has at his or her disposal the resources falling within the remit of the fire and rescue services.
An order of the High Commissioner defines the standards applicable to the equipment and materials of the fire and rescue services.
The procedures for the technical inspection of the fire and rescue services’ firefighting and rescue resources are set by order of the High Commissioner.
