Article L2122-34-2 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

For the attributions they exercise on behalf of the State, the mayor as well as deputy mayors and members of the town council acting by delegation from the mayor under the conditions set out in article L. 2122-18 are bound by the obligation of neutrality and respect for the principle of secularism.
