The external funeral service is a public service mission comprising:
1° The transport of bodies before and after placing in the coffin;
2° The organisation of funerals;
3° The conservation care defined in article L. 2223-19-1;
4° The supply of covers, coffins and their interior and exterior accessories, as well as cinerary urns;

6° The management and use of funeral chambers;
7° The supply of hearses and mourning cars;
8° The supply of personnel and objects and services required for funerals, burials, exhumations and cremations, with the exception of funeral plaques, religious emblems, flowers, miscellaneous printing work and funeral marble work.
This service may be provided by municipalities, either directly or through delegated management. Municipalities or their delegated managers have no exclusive right to carry out this task. It may also be carried out by any other company or association that has been granted the authorisation provided for in article L. 2223-23.
