Article L2224-23 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

Communes may set up public weighing, measuring and gauging offices where anyone may have their goods weighed and gauged on payment of a fee.

Recourse to these offices is compulsory only in the event of a dispute.

Les communes peuvent instituer les bureaux de pesage, de mesurage et de jaugeage publics où chacun peut faire peser et jauger ses marchandises moyennant le payement d’un droit.

Le recours à ces bureaux n’est obligatoire qu’en cas de contestation.
