Article L2224-27 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

Those to whom the offices or functions of public weigher or measurer are entrusted are obliged to keep the markets, halls and ports equipped with the instruments necessary for the exercise of their functions and to have employees in sufficient numbers. If they fail to do so, the police will provide for them at their own expense and they will be dismissed.

Ceux à qui les bureaux ou les fonctions de peseur ou mesureur public sont confiés sont obligés de tenir les marchés, halles et ports garnis d’instruments nécessaires à l’exercice de leurs fonctions et de disposer d’employés en nombre suffisant. A défaut, il y est pourvu à leurs frais par la police et ils sont destitués.
