Article L2252-4 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

A commune may guarantee loans contracted to finance the construction, by religious associations or, in the départements of Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin and Moselle, by public religious establishments or by associations registered under local law for religious purposes, of buildings meeting collective needs of a religious nature.

The municipality informs the State representative in the department of its intention to grant such a guarantee at least three months before it is granted.

Une commune peut garantir les emprunts contractés pour financer la construction, par des associations cultuelles ou, dans les départements du Bas-Rhin, du Haut-Rhin et de la Moselle, par des établissements publics du culte ou par des associations inscrites de droit local à objet cultuel, d’édifices répondant à des besoins collectifs de caractère religieux.


La commune informe le représentant de l’Etat dans le département de son intention d’accorder une telle garantie au moins trois mois avant que celle-ci soit accordée.
