The tasks of the primary care general practitioner include the following:
1° Contribute to ambulatory healthcare provision, by ensuring the prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of illnesses for their patients, as well as health education. This mission may be carried out in health or medico-social establishments;
2° Directing patients, according to their needs, within the healthcare system and the medico-social sector;
3° Ensuring the necessary coordination of care for patients;
4° Ensuring the individual application of protocols and recommendations for conditions requiring prolonged care and contributing to the monitoring of chronic illnesses, in cooperation with the other professionals involved in the patient’s care;
5° Ensuring that the information provided by the various healthcare professionals is summarised;
5° bis Administering and coordinating care aimed at relieving pain. If necessary, the attending doctor will liaise with specialised pain management structures;
6° Contribute to prevention and screening initiatives;
7° Participate in the public service mission of permanent care under the conditions laid down in article L. 6314-1;
8° Contribute to the reception and training of trainees in the second and third cycles of medical studies.
