Article L4312-1 of the French Public Health Code

A national order of nurses is instituted, which must include all nurses entitled to practise their profession in France.

The national order of nurses shall maintain the ethical principles and develop the skills that are essential to the practice of the profession. It helps to promote public health and quality of care.

The national council of the order prepares a code of ethics, issued in the form of a decree by the Council of State. This code sets out the duties of nurses in their dealings with patients, other members of the profession and other healthcare professionals.

In accordance with the provisions of article L. 4061-1, nurses covered by the provisions of article L. 4138-2 of the Defence Code are not entered on any roll of the Order.

Il est institué un ordre national des infirmiers groupant obligatoirement tous les infirmiers habilités à exercer leur profession en France.

L’ordre national des infirmiers veille à maintenir les principes éthiques et à développer la compétence, indispensables à l’exercice de la profession. Il contribue à promouvoir la santé publique et la qualité des soins.

Le conseil national de l’ordre prépare un code de déontologie, édicté sous forme d’un décret en Conseil d’Etat. Ce code énonce notamment les devoirs des infirmiers dans leurs rapports avec les patients, les autres membres de la profession et les autres professionnels de santé.

Conformément aux dispositions de l’article L. 4061-1, les infirmiers relevant des dispositions de l’article L. 4138-2 du code de la défense ne sont inscrits à aucun tableau de l’ordre.
