Article L4321-18-3 of the French Public Health Code

If a member ceases to hold office for any reason whatsoever, he is immediately replaced by a substitute. If there is no substitute, a supplementary election is held to fill the vacant seat as from the date on which the vacancy is established. In this case, the term of office of the member thus elected shall be that remaining until the date on which the term of office of the member he replaces would have expired.

The member thus elected shall be of the same gender as the member he replaces.

Lorsqu’un membre vient à cesser ses fonctions pour quelque cause que ce soit, il est immédiatement remplacé par un suppléant. A défaut de suppléant, il est procédé à une élection complémentaire visant à pourvoir le siège vacant à compter de la constatation de la vacance de poste. Dans ce cas, la durée de fonctions du membre ainsi élu est celle qui restait à courir jusqu’à la date à laquelle aurait expiré le mandat de celui qu’il remplace.

Le membre ainsi élu est du même sexe que le membre qu’il remplace.
