Article L4364-1 of the French Public Health Code

Prosthetists and orthotists make, on medical prescription, the equipment necessary for disabled people.

They comprise the following professions:

1° Orthoprosthetists;

2° Podiatrists;

3° Ocularists;

4° Epithesists;

5° Orthopaedic orthotists.

Persons may practise one of these professions if, under conditions determined by decree, they can prove that they have completed a training course attested by a State diploma, title or certificate or have professional experience and comply with the rules governing the supply of orthopaedic devices.

The conditions of application of this article are defined by decree.

Les prothésistes et orthésistes réalisent, sur prescription médicale, l’appareillage nécessaire aux personnes handicapées.

Ils comprennent les professions suivantes :

1° Les orthoprothésistes ;

2° Les podo-orthésistes ;

3° Les ocularistes ;

4° Les épithésistes ;

5° Les orthopédistes-orthésistes.

Peuvent exercer l’une de ces professions, les personnes qui, dans des conditions déterminées par décret, justifient d’une formation attestée par un diplôme d’Etat, un titre ou un certificat ou disposent d’une expérience professionnelle et respectent des règles de délivrance de l’appareillage.

Les conditions d’application du présent article sont définies par décret.
