Article L511-1 of the French Monetary and Financial Code

I.-Credit institutions are the undertakings defined in point 1 of paragraph 1 of Article 4 of Regulation (EU) No 575/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 June 2013.

II. – Finance companies are legal entities, other than credit institutions, which carry out credit transactions on their own behalf and in the course of their regular business under the conditions and within the limits defined by their authorisation. They are financial institutions within the meaning of 4 of Article L. 511-21.

I.-Les établissements de crédit sont les entreprises définies au point 1 du paragraphe 1 de l’article 4 du règlement (UE) n° 575/2013 du Parlement européen et du Conseil du 26 juin 2013.

II. – Les sociétés de financement sont des personnes morales, autres que des établissements de crédit, qui effectuent à titre de profession habituelle et pour leur propre compte des opérations de crédit dans les conditions et limites définies par leur agrément. Elles sont des établissements financiers au sens du 4 de l’article L. 511-21.
