Article L511-55 of the French Commercial code

Notaries and bailiffs are required, on pain of dismissal, costs, damages to the parties, to leave an exact copy of the protests. Subject to the same penalties, they are also required to deliver against receipt to the clerk of the commercial court or of the judicial court ruling commercially at the debtor’s domicile, or to send him by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt, an exact copy of protests in default of payment of accepted bills of exchange and promissory notes. This formality must be completed within a fortnight of the deed.

Les notaires et les huissiers sont tenus, à peine de destitution, dépens, dommages-intérêts envers les parties, de laisser copie exacte des protêts. Sous les mêmes sanctions, ils sont également tenus de remettre contre récépissé au greffier du tribunal de commerce ou du tribunal judiciaire statuant commercialement du domicile du débiteur, ou de lui adresser par lettre recommandée avec accusé de réception, une copie exacte des protêts faute de paiement des traites acceptées et des billets à ordre. Cette formalité doit être accomplie dans la quinzaine de l’acte.
