Article L5111-4 of the French Public Health Code

Medicinal products or classes of medicinal products of major therapeutic interest are defined as medicinal products or classes of medicinal products for which an interruption of treatment is likely to jeopardise the patient’s vital prognosis in the short or medium term, or represents a significant loss of opportunity for patients in view of the seriousness or progressive potential of the disease.

On entend par médicaments ou classes de médicaments d’intérêt thérapeutique majeur les médicaments ou classes de médicaments pour lesquels une interruption de traitement est susceptible de mettre en jeu le pronostic vital des patients à court ou moyen terme, ou représente une perte de chance importante pour les patients au regard de la gravité ou du potentiel évolutif de la maladie.
