The agency is administered by a Board of Directors and managed by a Chief Executive Officer.
In addition to its Chairman, the Board of Directors is made up of the following members:
1° Representatives of the State ;
2° Three deputies and three senators;
3° Representatives of the compulsory basic health insurance schemes;
4° Representatives of healthcare professionals authorised to prescribe and dispense products mentioned in the same article L. 5311-1 ;
5° Representatives of associations of users of the healthcare system approved under Article L. 1114-1;
6° Qualified persons ;
7° Representatives of the Agency’s staff.
Voting rights are divided equally between the members mentioned in 1° and the other members of the Board of Directors. The Chairman has the casting vote in the event of a tie.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer are appointed by decree. The Chief Executive Officer is appointed for a term of three years, renewable once.
The Board of Directors sets the agency’s policy guidelines. It also deliberates on its work programme and on subjects defined by regulation.
A Scientific Advisory Board, whose chairman is appointed by the Minister for Health on the advice of the Board, ensures the consistency of the Agency’s scientific policy.
