Article L612-8 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

Where the foreign national is not in a situation referred to in articles L. 612-6 and L. 612-7, the administrative authority may attach to the decision imposing an obligation to leave French territory a prohibition on returning to French territory.
The effects of this prohibition cease on expiry of a period, set by the administrative authority, which may not exceed two years from enforcement of the obligation to leave French territory.

Lorsque l’étranger n’est pas dans une situation mentionnée aux articles L. 612-6 et L. 612-7, l’autorité administrative peut assortir la décision portant obligation de quitter le territoire français d’une interdiction de retour sur le territoire français.
Les effets de cette interdiction cessent à l’expiration d’une durée, fixée par l’autorité administrative, qui ne peut excéder deux ans à compter de l’exécution de l’obligation de quitter le territoire français.
