Article L6211-1 of the French Labour Code

Apprenticeships contribute to the nation’s educational objectives. It contributes to professional integration.

Its purpose is to provide workers who have fulfilled their compulsory schooling obligation with general, theoretical and practical training, with a view to obtaining a vocational qualification attested by a diploma or professional qualification registered in the National Vocational Certification Register.

The training is free of charge for the apprentice and his/her legal representative.

Subject to article L. 6241-5, this book does not apply to military apprentices, who are governed by the Defence Code.

Article L6211-1

L’apprentissage concourt aux objectifs éducatifs de la nation. Il contribue à l’insertion professionnelle.

Il a pour objet de donner à des travailleurs, ayant satisfait à l’obligation scolaire, une formation générale, théorique et pratique, en vue de l’obtention d’une qualification professionnelle sanctionnée par un diplôme ou un titre à finalité professionnelle enregistré au répertoire national des certifications professionnelles.

La formation est gratuite pour l’apprenti et pour son représentant légal.

Sous réserve de l’article L. 6241-5, le présent livre n’est pas applicable aux apprentis militaires, qui sont régis par le code de la défense.
