Article L6211-2 of the French Public Health Code

A medical biology examination takes place in three phases:

1° The pre-analytical phase, which includes taking a biological sample from a human being, collecting the relevant clinical elements, preparing, transporting and storing the biological sample until it reaches the place where it is analysed;

2° The analytical phase, which is the technical process used to obtain a biological analysis result;

3° The post-analytical phase, which includes validation, contextual interpretation of the result and appropriate communication of the result to the prescriber and, under the conditions set out in Article L. 1111-2, to the patient, within a timeframe compatible with the state of the art.

Article L6211-2

Un examen de biologie médicale se déroule en trois phases :

1° La phase pré-analytique, qui comprend le prélèvement d’un échantillon biologique sur un être humain, le recueil des éléments cliniques pertinents, la préparation, le transport et la conservation de l’échantillon biologique jusqu’à l’endroit où il est analysé ;

2° La phase analytique, qui est le processus technique permettant l’obtention d’un résultat d’analyse biologique ;

3° La phase post-analytique, qui comprend la validation, l’interprétation contextuelle du résultat ainsi que la communication appropriée du résultat au prescripteur et, dans les conditions fixées à l’article L. 1111-2, au patient, dans un délai compatible avec l’état de l’art.
