Article L641-2 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

An application to lift an inadmissibility order may only be granted if the foreign national resides outside France. This condition does not apply:
1° During the time when the foreign national is serving a firm prison sentence in France;
2° When the foreign national is the subject of a house arrest decision taken pursuant to articles L. 731-3, L. 731-4 or L. 731-5.

Article L641-2

Il ne peut être fait droit à une demande de relèvement d’une interdiction du territoire que si le ressortissant étranger réside hors de France. Cette condition ne s’applique pas :
1° Pendant le temps où le ressortissant étranger subit en France une peine d’emprisonnement ferme ;
2° Lorsque l’étranger fait l’objet d’une décision d’assignation à résidence prise en application des articles L. 731-3, L. 731-4 ou L. 731-5.
