Markets of national interest are public market management services offering wholesalers and producers collective management services tailored to the characteristics of certain agricultural and food products.
They meet regional planning, environmental quality improvement and food safety objectives.
Access to these markets is reserved for producers and traders.
The classification of markets for agricultural and food products as markets of national interest or the creation of such markets is pronounced on the proposal of the regional councils by decree.
These markets may be located on the public or private domain of one or more legal persons under public law or on buildings belonging to private persons.
The declassification of a market of national interest may be ordered by the Minister for Trade and the Minister for Agriculture on the basis of a proposal from the Regional Council if the market’s activity no longer enables it to fulfil the missions defined in the first paragraph or the general organisation determined under the conditions laid down in Article L. 761-10.
