Article LO6411-1 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

The archipelago of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon comprises the island of Saint-Pierre, the island of Miquelon-Langlade and the islands and islets dependent on them.

It constitutes an overseas collectivity, governed by the article 74 of the Constitution, which takes the name of: “territorial collectivity of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon”.

The territorial collectivity of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon is freely administered by its elected representatives and by local referendum, under the conditions laid down by the present code.

The Republic guarantees the free administration of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and respect for its own interests, taking into account its specific geographical and historical features.
