Article R1112-18 of the French Public Health Code

Establishments may have either a single hospitalisation regime, which constitutes the common regime, or two hospitalisation regimes, the common regime and the special regime which includes single rooms.

The common regime must be applied to beneficiaries of state medical aid and to beneficiaries of care provided under Article L. 254-1 of the Code de l’action sociale et des familles.

Les établissements peuvent comporter soit un régime unique d’hospitalisation qui constitue le régime commun, soit deux régimes d’hospitalisation, le régime commun et le régime particulier lequel comprend des chambres à un lit.

Le régime commun est obligatoirement appliqué aux bénéficiaires de l’aide médicale de l’Etat et aux bénéficiaires des soins dispensés au titre de l’article L. 254-1 du code de l’action sociale et des familles.
