Article R1131-1 of the French Public Health Code

The examination of a person’s genetic characteristics or their identification by genetic fingerprinting for medical purposes consists of analysing their genetic characteristics inherited or acquired at an early stage of prenatal development.

The purpose of this analysis is:

1° Either to establish, confirm or invalidate the diagnosis of a genetic disease in a person;

2° Or to search for the characteristics of one or more genes likely to be at the origin of the development of a disease in a person or the members of his or her family potentially concerned;

3° or to adapt the medical treatment of a person according to his or her genetic characteristics; or

L’examen des caractéristiques génétiques d’une personne ou son identification par empreintes génétiques à des fins médicales consiste à analyser ses caractéristiques génétiques héritées ou acquises à un stade précoce du développement prénatal.


Cette analyse a pour objet :


1° Soit de poser, de confirmer ou d’infirmer le diagnostic d’une maladie à caractère génétique chez une personne ;


2° Soit de rechercher les caractéristiques d’un ou plusieurs gènes susceptibles d’être à l’origine du développement d’une maladie chez une personne ou les membres de sa famille potentiellement concernés ;


3° Soit d’adapter la prise en charge médicale d’une personne selon ses caractéristiques génétiques
