Article R1131-21 of the French Public Health Code

Neonatal screening refers to the screening of newborns for the purpose of secondary prevention. It is carried out on all newborns or, in certain cases, on those at particular risk of developing one of these diseases. The list of these diseases is drawn up by order of the Minister for Health after consulting the Agence de la biomédecine.

Le dépistage néonatal s’entend de celui des maladies à expression néonatale, à des fins de prévention secondaire. Il est effectué auprès de tous les nouveau-nés ou, dans certains cas, auprès de ceux qui présentent un risque particulier de développer l’une de ces maladies. La liste de ces maladies est fixée par arrêté du ministre chargé de la santé après avis de l’Agence de la biomédecine.
