Article R1211-50 of the French Public Health Code

Any doctor treating a patient of at least sixteen years of age shall ensure, at a time he or she deems appropriate, that the patient is aware of the possibility of organ donation for transplantation purposes, as well as the procedures for consenting to such donation, as provided for in Title I and Chapter II of Title III of Book II of Part One of this Code.

The doctor will inform the patient of the sources of information available from the Agence de la biomédecine, in particular the existence of its website. Where appropriate, he will respond to requests for further information.

Tout médecin traitant qui suit un patient âgé d’au moins seize ans s’assure, à un moment qu’il juge opportun, de sa connaissance de la possibilité du don d’organes à fins de greffe, ainsi que des modalités de consentement à ce don, prévues par les dispositions du titre Ier et du chapitre II du titre III du livre II de la première partie du présent code.

Le médecin précise au patient les sources d’information disponibles émanant de l’Agence de la biomédecine, notamment l’existence de son site internet. Il répond, le cas échéant, aux demandes d’information complémentaires.
