Article R1321-28 of the French Public Health Code

When the quality standards are not met and the Prefect, on the basis of a report from the Director General of the Regional Health Agency, considers that the distribution presents a risk to people’s health, he asks the person responsible for producing or distributing the water to take corrective measures to restore the quality of the water. It informs the mayor and the director general of the regional health agency, who forwards this information to the territorially competent prefect of the effective application of the measures taken.

Lorsque les références de qualité ne sont pas satisfaites et que le préfet, sur le rapport du directeur général de l’agence régionale de santé, estime que la distribution présente un risque pour la santé des personnes, il demande à la personne responsable de la production ou de la distribution d’eau de prendre des mesures correctives pour rétablir la qualité des eaux. Elle informe le maire et le directeur général de l’agence régionale de santé, qui transmet cette information au préfet territorialement compétent de l’application effective des mesures prises.
