When the application is deemed to be in order and complete, it is submitted to a public enquiry. This is carried out in accordance with the conditions set out in Chapter IV of Title III of Book I of the Code of Relations between the Public and the Administration.
The order issued by the prefect or prefects concerned designates the municipalities where a file and an enquiry register must be made available to the public. It is published by means of posters in the municipalities in whose territory the requested protection perimeter is located.
Once the enquiry has been completed, the investigating commissioner or the chairman of the enquiry committee will summon the petitioner to a meeting within eight days, and will inform him on site of the written and oral comments received during the public enquiry and recorded in a report, inviting him to submit his response within twenty-two days.
The investigating commissioner or the chairman of the investigating committee sends the investigation file, with his reasoned conclusions, to the prefect, within fifteen days of the applicant’s response, or of the expiry of the period given to the applicant to produce his response.
