Article R1331-23 of the French Public Health Code

The configuration of the living areas of a premises is considered not to be cramped when the following cumulative conditions are met:

1° One of these living areas has a surface area of at least nine square metres or a habitable volume of at least 20 cubic metres;

2° The other rooms have a surface area of at least seven square metres;

3° An occupant can move around safely and easily in the home, taking into account the furniture, equipment and fittings necessary for everyday life.

La configuration des pièces de vie d’un local est regardée comme non exiguë lorsque sont satisfaites les conditions cumulatives suivantes :

1° L’une de ces pièces de vie a une surface au moins égale à neuf mètres carrés ou présente un volume habitable au moins égal à 20 mètres cubes ;

2° Les autres ont une surface au moins égale à sept mètres carrés ;

3° Un occupant peut se mouvoir sans risque et circuler aisément dans le logement en tenant compte du mobilier, des équipements et des aménagements nécessaires à la vie courante.
