Article R1333-85 of the French Public Health Code

The person responsible for the nuclear activity at the origin of a radiological emergency shall make an initial assessment of the circumstances and consequences of the situation and implement the necessary measures, in particular, where applicable, those provided for in the internal emergency plan. It immediately informs the competent authorities of the occurrence of the radiological emergency.

Under the conditions prescribed by the emergency plans referred to in Chapter I of Title IV of Book VII of the French Internal Security Code, the person responsible for the nuclear activity at the origin of the situation shall participate in the implementation of the protective measures decided by the public authorities, in particular by informing neighbouring populations without delay in the event of immediate danger.

Le responsable de l’activité nucléaire à l’origine d’une situation d’urgence radiologique procède à une première évaluation des circonstances et des conséquences de la situation, et met en œuvre les mesures nécessaires, notamment, le cas échéant, celles prévues par le plan d’urgence interne. Il informe sans délai les autorités compétentes de la survenance de la situation d’urgence radiologique.

Dans les conditions prescrites par les plans d’urgence mentionnés au chapitre Ier du titre IV du livre VII du code de la sécurité intérieure, le responsable de l’activité nucléaire à l’origine de la situation participe à la mise en œuvre des actions de protection décidées par les pouvoirs publics, notamment en informant sans délai les populations avoisinantes en cas de danger immédiat.
