Each antenatal clinic must have at least :
1° A medical office with all the equipment necessary for a proper examination of the patients, including a gynaecological table.
At least two dressing tables must be attached to this office and arranged so that the patients have direct access to the office;
2° A special room in which a midwife or nurse collects the patients’ urine and analyses it (for sugar and albumin);
3° A sterilisation room or at least a dry oven and cupboards for storing instruments and dressings;
4° A pharmacy store with lockable cupboards for toxic substances;
5° A spacious waiting room with a number of seats proportionate to the number of patients who can be admitted for each consultation. An office is attached to this room for the person in charge of welcoming and informing patients;
6° A medical and social file. Each consultant must have a regularly updated medical record which includes a list of examinations carried out and treatments prescribed. Only medical staff are authorised to consult these records.
In addition, as far as possible, the layout of an antenatal consultation should include :
– a special room where blood samples are taken ;
– a radiophotography facility.
Large antenatal clinics that do not have an X-ray facility should be able to use one located nearby.
