Article R261-2 of the French Cinema and Moving Image Code

The technical elements necessary for fixing the work are:

1° For works fixed on a photochemical medium:

a) Image negative film;

b) Sound negative film and sound magnetic media;

c) Where these are the only technical elements existing or available, positive copies or intermediate elements enabling positive copies to be obtained;

2° For works on analogue media other than photochemical media: the original analogue media usually referred to as “masters”;

3° In the case of digital works: the digital source files usually referred to as “digital masters”.

Les éléments techniques nécessaires à la fixation de l’œuvre sont :


1° En ce qui concerne les œuvres fixées sur support photochimique :


a) Les pellicules négatives images ;


b) Les pellicules négatives son et les supports magnétiques son ;


c) Lorsque ce sont les seuls éléments techniques existants ou disponibles, les copies positives ou les éléments intermédiaires permettant l’obtention des copies positives ;


2° En ce qui concerne les œuvres sur support analogique autre que photochimique : les supports analogiques originaux usuellement dénommés “ masters ” ;


3° En ce qui concerne les œuvres sur support numérique : les fichiers numériques sources usuellement dénommés “ masters numériques ”.
