Article R3172-1 of the French Labour Code

In undertakings and establishments where all employees without exception do not benefit from weekly rest for the whole day on Sunday, the employer shall inform the employees, by any means, of the days and hours of collective rest allocated to all or some of them:

1° On a day other than Sunday ;

2° From noon on Sunday to noon on Monday;

3° Or on Sunday afternoon, subject to compensatory rest;

4° In any other exceptional way permitted by law.

The employer shall inform the Labour Inspectorate beforehand of this information and of the arrangements for informing employees that it intends to implement.

Dans les entreprises et établissements dont tous les salariés sans exception ne bénéficient pas du repos hebdomadaire toute la journée du dimanche, l’employeur communique, par tout moyen, aux salariés les jours et heures de repos collectif attribués à tout ou partie d’entre eux :


1° Soit un autre jour que le dimanche ;


2° Soit du dimanche midi au lundi midi ;


3° Soit le dimanche après-midi sous réserve du repos compensateur ;


4° Soit suivant tout autre mode exceptionnel permis par la loi.


L’employeur communique, au préalable, à l’agent de contrôle de l’inspection du travail, cette information et les modalités de la communication aux salariés qu’il envisage de mettre en œuvre.
