Article R3172-6 of the French Labour Code

An employer who wishes to suspend the weekly rest period in application of article L. 3132-4, in the event of urgent work, shall immediately inform the labour inspector and, except in cases of force majeure, before the work begins.

He shall inform him of the circumstances justifying the suspension of the weekly rest period. It shall indicate the date and duration of this suspension and specify the number of employees to whom it applies.

Where urgent work is being carried out by a separate company, the notice from the head, director or manager of that company shall mention the date of the compensatory rest day provided for the employees.

L’employeur qui veut suspendre le repos hebdomadaire en application de l’article L. 3132-4, en cas de travaux urgents, informe immédiatement l’agent de contrôle de l’inspection du travail et, sauf cas de force majeure, avant le commencement du travail.


Il l’informe des circonstances qui justifient la suspension du repos hebdomadaire. Il indique la date et la durée de cette suspension et spécifie le nombre de salariés auxquels elle s’applique.


Lorsque des travaux urgents sont exécutés par une entreprise distincte, l’avis du chef, du directeur ou du gérant de cette entreprise mentionne la date du jour de repos compensateur assuré aux salariés.
