Fire and rescue centres are the departmental units primarily responsible for rescue missions.
They are created and classified by order of the prefect, after consulting the general council, into main rescue centres and rescue centres according to the risk analysis and coverage plan and operational regulations.
The classification criteria, defined by order of the Prefect of Mayotte, are based on the number of simultaneous departures for fire-fighting, emergency personal assistance and response missions.
Each fire and rescue centre has, depending on the category to which it belongs, a workforce enabling it at least to ensure on-call duty, standby duty and response departures in compliance with the provisions of the national reference guides mentioned in article R. 3551-6-13, the risk analysis and coverage plan and the operational regulations.
On-call personnel are likely to leave for intervention immediately, on-call personnel are likely to leave for intervention within the timeframe set by the operational regulations.
Fire and rescue centres are placed under the authority of a centre chief appointed by joint order of the prefect and the president of the general council, subject to the application of article R. 3551-6-6, on the proposal of the director of the Mayotte fire and rescue service.
A fire and rescue centre is said to be mixed when it includes both professional firefighters and volunteer firefighters.
